MY WiSH LIST!

It’s officially the first week of December and if you are like me you have barely made a dent in your holiday shopping.  Selecting special gifts for all the women in your life is especially challenging given the volume of choices and the limited time to check all the boxes on your list. Today I am sharing my top ten picks for gift giving or receiving (hint to my family) this holiday season.   Heck if you’re worried the items may not arrive under your tree, send me a note and I will happily pass along your suggestions.  Ya’ll can thank me later ;)

1. Pima Cotton Pajamas

Trust me when I tell you I am a pajama aficionado and these pj’s rock!  The pima cotton keeps its shape and the colors don’t fade. More importantly these pj’s pack so nicely that you will have room for an extra pair in your suitcase this holiday season.

2. Agraria Rainbow

I am, as everyone knows, a scent-aholic and these Agraria Home scented room sprays are to die for.  Even better is that you don’t have to decide on one scent because you get to have a sampling of all my favorites.  



3. Charms

I have been collecting charms since my oldest daughter was born and my bracelet finally packs a punch (see image of my charm bracelet).  One of my favorite sentiments is to receive new charms, such as this candy cane charm, to mark the passage of time. I love to add anything with enamel and color to the collection because more is more!

4. Roses for the lips?

This lip oil with rose petals covers all the bases for me.  First, I adore anything with roses, and, second, I love a clear gloss that isn’t too sticky.  Buy one for each stocking in the house and you will be the fan favorite on Christmas morning.  

5. Custom Art for the Tree

Lindsay Cowles is a creative genius and has generously turned her talents to making ornaments for the holiday season.  These hand painted balls are like receiving a custom piece of art for your tree.  The best part is that they are shatter proof which means you can trust everyone to deck the halls without worry of breaking.

6. Backpack

Travel much?  Then you know a backpack is key to saving your back and easing up your hands to juggle a million other items.  I am in love with this canvas backpack that doubles as a shoulder tote.  While I am partial to the tan leather, the navy has year round appeal.  This is definitely on my wish list!

7. Herend is forever

Admittedly, the collections might be out of hand BUT you can never have too many pieces of Herend.  This precious begging poodle is the perfect addition to the collection I started years ago and reminds me of our apricot standard, Skyler.

8. Paper heaven

I am committing to be better about writing notes because I LOVE to receive them in the mail.  I have realized that having pretty paper makes the task of writing special notes more inviting.  This stationary is a true treat with the marbled paper liners that remind me of so many of our interior projects.  I will need to include a note that the liner is not re-purposed wallpaper although I can definitely see it on walls.  

9. Diva slippers

There are needs and there are wants and this falls into the latter. Who would not love to wear these house shoes around in all their over the top glory?  The real question is what color to get and I don’t think you can go wrong with any of these super fun options.  I am settling on the red and green which is a little bit Gucci and a lot of Christmas cheer.  

10. Quilted floral travel bag

For girls on the go keeping a travel bag on the ready is essential.  Several years ago I purchased this same bag in black and keep it full of the things I know I will need each time I travel.  This year they introduced it in a black floral which I am coveting.  This bag wears so incredibly well and packs easily vs. the bags with the stiff sides and I have been known to toss it on gentle cycle when things get messy.

Illuminating how travel impacts the creative process. If you’ve ever wondered what designers “see” when they are exploring the world this might sum it up. A camera full of delighting in the details. And while this is probably boring to many it provides me with mountains of things to consider. Patterns, ratios, color play, profiles, symmetry, undulation, hinges, and so much more. When my daughter asks me “mom, what are you thinking about?” The answer is simple. I am thinking about math and execution and materials and the discipline, time and patience required to bring these details into existence. I am also thinking how grateful I am to the people who for centuries had the brilliance to share these gifts. Loving something so deeply apparently makes us hostage to fortune. The great impediment to other pursuits. Joan Didion describes having children as being terrifying and says if you’ve ever been fearful of losing a dog you’re pre disposed to this terror as a parent. 🙋‍♀️Loving my little Lulu was a gift. She was my shadow and constant companion so when she was not in the room I knew something was amiss. What an incredible gamble it is to love. We subconsciously know that there will be a window in which we will be separated and yet we roll the dice and double down to love harder thinking it is stronger than fate and we can somehow will the other to stay forever. …. Alas, we are here with one gaping, soul crushing crater of memories…. wishing we could hold, kiss and smell her just one more time. Eternity is promised and I intend to collect. Until then I’ll be whispering your name on the breeze my forever little Lulu.

It took some convincing but we finally have a love match. A few years of joking about the models drawn for scale in our drawings and wha-lah. We finally have an equitable situation. Notice how nice his calves look with those heels 🤣🤣🤣. I remember the first time I read “Jonathan Livingston Seagull” I had more questions about his spiritual after life than I did about the meaning of his time on earth. Shocking. The book is about an ordinary seagull who is not interested in the mundane rituals of the other seagulls but of a bird who pushes against the flock by pursuing his passion for extraordinary flight. The book is part divinity and mostly a spiritual search to find meaning and ultimately acceptance as an outlier. This week 30 years ago I graduated from college. And this week my daughter graduates from the same college, in the same city, in the same week. If I am honest, this has been an unanticipated time of introspection. The beauty of getting older is being able to see clearly how your life has unfolded and the realization that there was a master plan that you never could have dreamed up in your wildest imagination. To all the graduates out there…be an outlier. Don’t be afraid that not joining the flock will be lonely, because some days it will. The purest joy I can conceive is knowing that following your passion might make you the leader of the pack but more importantly it will make you the leader of YOUR life. It’s a dry lay Friday in honor of all the mom’s who lay their hearts on the line for their children everyday. Shoutout to the moms who have moved to different cities to make covid or the commute easier. To the stepmom who spent painstaking hours redoing two rooms for her new step children and then bought a new home to create bigger spaces for them to roam. To the mother in law who wants to redo her son’s room to make her daughter in law feel like it is hers too. To the moms who request special linings for their light sensitive kids. To the mom who brought her adult daughter to preview the selections for a room in her mom’s new home and pulled her in by the waist to give her a reassuring hug. To the mom who turned 80 this year and let us roll through her house like thunder readying for her impromptu party. To the mom who nursed her daughter back to health surrounded by new bed linens and squishy pillows. To all the moms. I see you. I feel you. I hear you. There is no love as great as the love of a mom.
